Profile:
Widely regarded as one of the finest players ever to appear for Sunderland.
Ambrose Fogarty signed from Sunderland in 1963 and went on to play well over 100 times for the club.
In 1964 he became the first Sunderland player to make an international appearance for Ireland,

RANDS, "Howard Armstrong RANDS" CPO, Howard Armstrong, CD, RCN, Retired Howie passed away suddenly on January 10, 2006. Born in Fort William, Ontario, raised in Sioux Lookout, Howie settled in
Victoria in 1962. Howie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis; and children, Bruce (Diane), Gordie,
Janet (Keith), David, Brian, Don (Vera); grandchildren, Shannon, Kimberley, Donald, Candice, Drew,
Bryce, and great-grandson, Lennox. Howie served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1946 - 1971 aboard
21 different ships. He saw active duty during the Korean War and was awarded medals and decorations.
Howie continued his career as a letter carrier until 1986. He was also involved in community sports,
particularly Carnarvon Pony Baseball League. Howie's retirement years were spent enjoying his family,
fishing in his boat, backyard bird watching and cheering for his Seattle Mariners. | RANDS, Howard Armstrong. (I2590)

Richard Joseph Long, was a portrait and landscape painter.
Richard attended school in The Christian brothers School in Westland Row.
Whilst working at his trade, he studied art in the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art evening classes.
As a young man he often haunted the National Gallery of Ireland,
that his frequent presence there attracted the interest of another regular visitor,
who having questioned him and learned of his wish to become a painter, gave him a Sovereign to buy his first box of watercolours.
